Being an effective sniper

Thus far, I’ve described how to be a good quickscoper, how to work support, etc. Now, it’s time to show how to lead from behind and change the tides on your enemies. </cliche>

1. You’re not the star.

There are times that you can be. If you’re the only member of a little group that’s trying to take a building, you might have to take point. If you’re a good enough sniper, quickscope any enemies. If you’re not, use your pistol or pick up an automatic weapon.

2. Long-ranged is the best

Hang back. Your pistol will allow you to cover lots of distance quickly when you need to move up. Otherwise, stay behind cover. The enemies will take out whoever’s closest to them, so you’ll be safe. Kill off the enemies that are close to you first, then the ones with sniper rifles. Lastly, kill the ones that are fighting your teammates with their automatic weapons.

3. Taking weapons

Yes, taking weapons is a good idea. Picking up ANY automatic primary weapon will give you an advantage over your pistol. Take the best weapon of each class (never take a KT-44 or a Maiden, unless you’re a total bau5) that’s available to you.

4. Going out with a bang

This is what happens when you get trapped behind enemy lines. Pull out all of the stops. Snipe as many as you can, throw your frag at your feet, spray your rifle into the crowd. Once they overrun you, the frag should go off. By that time, you’ll be dead and you should get at least one kill.

Sniper Combat 1

If you’re sniping, and someone starts to shoot at you from a great distance, it is best to take cover before returning fire. While this gives them the chance to ambush you, it gives you the upper hand as they won’t know how you’ll attack them next. Slide around, as they won’t be able to tell that you’ve left cover if you do it right.

When it comes time to attack them, make sure that you don’t allow them to take advantage of their better view. Keep aiming where they are, and step out and shoot. They won’t be able to adjust that quickly unless they are very good.

Sensitivity

Adjust your sensitivity in all games besides NOVA 1,2 and MC4. The games listed are best used at the maximum sensitivity. In MC4, the turning rate is so slow that you actually have to use the highest possible setting or else you can’t turn fast enough to play effectively. In NOVA 1 and 2, the same issue occurs, but it’s slightly less dire - if you’re playing against assaulters, the jump button and the movement pad will save you, not your aiming. Of course, if you’re fighting a sniper, you’re probably dead, so why does it matter?

Vacations

Staying current in a game is always tough in real life. What happens when you’re on a vacation? Generally, I leave my device at home and try to enjoy my vacation. However, this time, I’m travelling for school-related purposes and I can get away with it. So, here’s what you should do.

1. If you have a good internet connection, play a few matches every day. Staying sharp is much easier than getting good all over again.

2. If you have a bad internet connection or no connection, play Campaign. It’ll be easy, but it’ll provide a good exercise to keep yourself on your toes.

Frag Grenade Usage

This is essentially like MC3’s grenade usage, only more interesting.

1. Only throw grenades if you suspect that someone is there, or if there’s a good reason to do so. Your grenade will probably not get a kill otherwise, but if someone’s there and you cook properly, you can be certain of a kill.

2. Arc your grenades and provide indirect fire on maps that support it. If you’re on Alert, you can arc your grenades onto the bridge and get some kills. Other than that, you can lob them over walls and kill campers.

3. Suicide attacks are devastating. If you’re going to die, drop the grenade first. I saw an excellent kamikaze the other day. He ended up with a K/D of 5.

Picking Up Weapons

Really, this can be the centerpoint of a strategy. If you rely on picking up weapons, you can become very vulnerable or very successful. In my earlier levels, I would always try to pick up a Charbtek-28, as it’d allow me go get a 4-kill streak before I was killed. However, I realized that this isn’t a very good strategy.

1. Pick up good weapons only. If you have a Black Mamba, you’ll probably have it for speed, so don’t get rid of it. If you have a Viny Pro, it sucks and you should go get yourself a VECT9 or a UFIA or SOMETHING.

2. Only pick up weapons that you don’t have. If you have a Charbtek-28, don’t go and pick up a SOCARS.

3. Pick up weapons that you need, and put them back if you don’t need them any more.

While a grenade launcher can destroy an enemy device indirectly, you can’t just keep an empty grenade launcher around. Pick your old weapon back up and use it.

UFIA PSD-2 Setup

This is the BEST setup that you can use on the UFIA PSD-2. It allows for EXCELLENT accuracy (even when hipfiring), excellent damage, and truly unsurmounted mobility.

Muzzle: Rifle Sound Suppressor

Grip: TAC2

Magazine: Extended

Stock: Buffer Tube

Sight: CTS

Regardless of what the statistics say, this is one of the best loadouts for this weapon. When you’re hipfiring, you have almost perfect accuracy. When you’re using the sight, you have almost perfect accuracy but the recoil is a little more noticeable.

X6 .338 Setup

This is the ONLY class that you should EVER use with the X6 .338, unless you play on dark maps (Landfall, Alert, etc.)

Muzzle Attachment: Phase Canceller
Magazine: Armor Piercing Bullets
Scope: Dropoff Calculator

Turn your control sensitivity to maximum, and it’ll handle quite nicely.

This class is stealthy, powerful, and accurate. You can one-shot kill people across maps, even if it’s a chest shot. The standard suppressor will limit your range so that this is impossible.

Yes, you can use a Thermal LCD. It’ll increase your damage, but it’ll make it impossible to see on bright maps.

MC4 - Black Mamba Usage

I’m playing more MC4, and this is what I’ve found when using the horribly nerfed revolver.

1. You need to use JHP Bullets. If you use Standard or FMJ, your damage will be too low. If you use AP bullets, your damage will be low, your accuracy will increase slightly, but you can’t hit anything due to the terrible accuracy. Using JHP doesn’t increase your already terrible accuracy, but it does allow you a better chance of killing enemies who charge you with intent of knifing.

2. You need to use Athleticism with this weapon as it’ll allow you to fly around the map. You can cover incredible amounts of ground with this weapon - using my MC4 sniper class with this weapon allows you to set up before the enemy team has a chance to look around.

3. It’s bad enough that you can simply switch it for a better weapon. If there’s a SOCARS lying around, take the rifle. If there’s a shotgun, take it. If it’s a launcher, take it, spam it while standing still, and then take the revolver again. This weapon does come in handy once in a while, but the stupid firing crap that MC4 brings (no automatic fire for non-automatic weapons) makes it almost impossible to use.

.44 Revolver 101

This is the best handgun to use if you’re good at aiming. The low firing rate, long reload time, high damage, and small cylinder size make this weapon almost like a sniper rifle. You have to use FMJ with this weapon - there are no other attachments.

To use this weapon, you really only need to be able to run quickly. Hipfire the pistol at enemies when you sweep out rooms (if you’re not quickscoping). It’s a 1HK on head and chest for players without Armor Elite, which gives you a very, very good chance at killing with one shot.

This is (in my opinion) the best pistol to use on a sniper class. The power, range, and sighted accuracy (which is reasonable) on this weapon give it distinct advantages over the other pistols.

Plus, the reload animation is badass.

Vulture 101

This is another epic pistol. Like the MK45, you get incredible movement speed and handling, but the damage is increased at the cost of fire rate and accuracy. However, this pistol has two extremely good things going for it: 1. it’s a 2HK on the body on ANY player, regardless of equipment; 2. It’s a 1HK on the head of any player who isn’t using Armor Elite (and that’s quite a few).

This is possibly the best weapon to use on a sniper class if you’re going to be on a close-ranged map a lot of the time (Divide, Recon, etc.). The accuracy isn’t as good as that of the MK45, but it’s still decent. Also, it’s very easy to get two hits on an enemy (I’ll upload gameplay later). The firing rate is lower, but this is acceptable - the lower magazine capacity makes up for this shortcoming, oddly enough, granting a better chance of landing a hit.

I advise using FMJ Bullets with this pistol, although a Suppressor is a reasonable choice. If you use a suppressor, your damage will be reduced to five, but the pistol becomes more accurate when unsighted. Use this to your advantage when you are making a stealth class and you need to destroy enemy equipment.

MK45 101

I may have covered this - I really don’t remember. Anyway, each of the three pistols can be considered the best secondary there is, each in their own way. I’ll be highlighting those over the next few days.

This pistol is surprisingly accurate when hipfired. It’s got nearly perfect accuracy, and the more than decent firing rate makes up for the lower damage. I advise equipping FMJ rounds on all pistols, as the damage increase will make dueling much better.

Basically, you need to run fast and use cover to use this pistol effectively. If you use my sniper class, for instance, you’ll blaze your way throughout all the maps while still maintaining use of your pistol. I advise using this weapon as a close-range combat weapon if you’re not a good quickscoper.

On that subject, you get extra epicscore if you use your Intercept at close range and your MK45 at long range. Just sayin’.

I’ve collected about half an hour of sniping gameplay. I plan on making some montages out of it, and a few short clips - there’s one funny one where I get stuck on a staircase and DEAL WITH IT! It’s down to these two choices:

Being a jackass

Occasionally in MC3, there will be times when you want to just throw your device across the room and scream.

Don’t.

Pull out your bitch class and kill everyone else. My dream bitch class consists of:

1. ZN6-Prototype w/ ACOG and Grip (I’ll explain)

2. Roar 3000 w/ FMJ

3. Throwing Knives, Athlete Elite, Armor Elite

This class allows you to spam your rifle at anyone, killing everything. It’s effective against all defensive tactics. Be on your guard for attacks from behind, snipers, and long-ranged players. The ACOG will allow you to take on enemies at long range, thus affording you a measure of protection.
